Special Education Resource Program Student who have special needs are supported through our Resource Program. We believe that all children -- the average child, the learning-disabled child, the intellectually gifted -- each one is a unique child of God, deserving the best possible opportunity for learning. Our Resource Program attempts to meet the needs of students beyond the scope of the regular classroom. Enrichment is considered an important part of programming. When appropriate, regular subjects are compacted for elected students. This creates time for special in-depth projects. Referrals are made by classroom teachers and approved by the principal. An assessment of educational needs is made by the Special Education teacher. If deemed necessary, further diagnostic work is completed through other professional agencies. Using the results of the assessment, the Resource teacher will plan an individualized program in cooperation with the classroom teacher and the student's parents. The program could consist of: 1. Daily withdrawal from class for a short period.
2. Modified programming in the regular class.
3. A combination of the above. Student progress and program evaluation take place at regular intervals. If warranted due to sufficient progress, a student's participation in this program will be terminated in consultation with teachers and the principal.
Consultation with teachers and administration takes place on a frequent and regular basis. Regular conferences with parents are scheduled. However, parents are invited to request conferences at any time. No concern is too small. The Resource Room is an open place used for various support programs. It is a place where special attention can be given to any aspect of learning. The program is fully integrated with school curriculum and classroom activities. English as a Second Language (ESL) |
