In grade five we study the following:

               Math from ancient cities and the world around us (weather etc.)

               Social Studies - India, Mexico, Atlantic Canada and Nunavut

               Jesus’s life and ministry through parables and word pictures

               In French: firefighters, weather, pizza and ants

               Grammar and spelling

               Proper keyboarding techniques

               In Gym: volleyball, basketball, badminton, track and field

               Language Arts - Novel studies are Owls in the Family, Star of Light, The Lion,  the Witch and the Wardrobe and a group novel study on the theme of Friendship; lots of creative writing as well as grammar and spelling

               Science/Health  - Insects, Geology, Light, Pond Communities, Taking Care of Your Lungs, and Growing and Changing

                French - our program is based on Addison-Wesley - Visage 2

This is also a year of growing and changing.  You will become more responsible for your work and your study habits.  We will learn techniques as a class to help you along in both areas.  You will also become a reading buddy.  As a reading buddy you will provide a pre-school student with a good role model and encourage them to try their best with their own work too. 

In addition to reading buddies there will also be chapels and assemblies to help co-ordinate and field trips to go on.  This year includes a trip to the Butterfly Conservatory and the Science Centre.  In June we’ll also take a hike to our pond out back and explore.  It is shaping up to be an excellent year, hope to see you there!
