Welcome to Grade Eight August 2008 Dear Grade 8 students and parents, Welcome to grade 8 for the school year 2008-2009. We are looking forward to an exciting school year. There are many special events which are planned for grade 8. We will be involved in many of the sporting events (volleyball in Bowmanville) with other schools; we will be planning and running the intramurals for the coming school year; grade 8 students are in charge of play day; many of the grade 8 students will be bus buddies for the Harmony students; there will be electives this year, a band trip to Wonderland (cost of about $25), and of course we look forward to the Ottawa trip (cost of about $275). And all of this leads to graduation which has been planned for Monday, June 22, 2009. In and amongst all the highlights, we will also be running regular classes on most days of the school year. I have already spoken to you about some of the expectations and reminded you about school supplies for next year, but it is good to be reminded again of what you will need for September. Please have the following ready for class on September 2:
ü French/English dictionary ü English dictionary with a pronunciation key and a Thesaurus ü pens (10, black or blue only), pencils (10), eraser, ruler ü one large 3-ringed binder (keep it simple) ü notebooks for spelling and grammar (no spiral binding) ü binder dividers for all other subjects except math ü math notebooks will be provided ü memory stick or computer diskettes (a 10 pack will be plenty) ü calculator for math ü 3 or 4 duo-tangs ü geometry set with a good compass as you were shown ü loose leaf paper (1000 sheets, but don’t bring it all to school in September) ü pencil crayons, high-lighter, glue stick, coloured markers (optional) ü black fine tip marker for maps in geography and current events ü box of kleenexes for the first day
I do hope that you enjoy the rest of the summer and look forward to seeing you all on the first day of school. Please be sure to have your P.E. clothes with you on the first day, as there may be a gym period. In His Service, Mr. K |
