Educational Guidelines (Article II of the Constitution)
The Lord God, by graciously giving us the Holy Scriptures, has revealed to His people ordering principles intensely relevant to education. He mandates man to bring the whole Word of God in all its redeeming power to bear upon education. Believing this, we confess:
-
LIFE: That human life in its entirety is service, rooted in faith to God, man and His world, because God created man to serve Him everywhere and requires us to educate our children for this service.
-
BIBLE: That the Bible as the written Word of God is the truth by which the Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding of God, ourselves and the world, and is the infallible authority by which He directs and governs all our activities, including the education of our children.
-
CREATION: That we can understand the world rightly only in its relation to God because the world in its origin, gracious preservation and ultimate restoration is the work of the Triune God, and the glorification of His Name is its purpose.
-
MAN: That man was created in the image of God to enjoy covenant fellowship with his Creator, to reflect in his person and works the excellencies of his Maker, to exercise dominion over the world in strict and loving obedience to God and to interpret all reality in accordance with His design and law.
-
SIN: That sin came into the world through man, and that we sin daily. That is, we willfully disobey God and forsake our tasks and office. Moreover, we estrange ourselves from God and our neighbour and bring God's curse upon creation. As a result, we are corrupt in heart, blind to the true meaning of life. We suppress and misuse the revelation of God which confronts us in creation and Scripture unless we are born from above by the Spirit of God.
-
CHRIST: That Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, according to the Scriptures, is both truly God and fully man. By His life, death and resurrection He reconciles us and all the world (John 3:16) to God and redeems our life in its entirety. Through His Spirit He renews our hearts to love God and our neighbour. He redirects our understanding to rightly know God, ourselves and the world. He is the only way to salvation (John 3:5,6).
-
THE KINGDOM OF GOD: That the Kingdom of God is His righteous and universal regime through Christ Jesus, whose rule in grace and power makes education possible and meaningful. In obedience to Christ, we submit ourselves in every area of life to His Word and Spirit to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and our neighbour as ourselves.
-
PURPOSE OF EDUCATION: That the purpose of Christian education is to direct and guide the child to commit her/his heart to Christ, the Way, the Truth and the Life, so that he/she may attain true understanding, wisdom, love and righteousness in order to competently and responsibly serve the Lord God in all areas of life.
-
PARENTS: That God has given primarily parents the responsibility to nurture and educate their children. Therefore, parents should establish and maintain schools.
-
THE CHILD: That the child is a blessing and trust of God to parents and that he/she needs ordering, correction and instruction. Therefore he/she is entitled and obligated to receive Christian education.
-
THE TEACHER: That Christian teachers, in obedience to God and in cooperation with parents, have a specific pedagogical responsibility while educating the child in school.
-
THE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL: That the Christian school is an institution established and controlled by an association of Christian believers, functioning in education in total voluntary submission to Christ, the King.
