Bible Perspective Statement “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 The Bible is the divinely inspired, infallible Word of God. It is the story of God and His people. It tells the story of His plan to offer salvation and redemption to His people. It tells the story of human obedience and disobedience. It guides us, corrects us, and calls us into living lives of joyful Christian discipleship. God’s word sheds light on all subjects taught in our school. It provides the framework in which all lessons are presented. The Bible is used each day in each classroom as a basis for devotions. Devotions provide a time for shared worship, mediation, thanksgiving, and prayer. Bible is also taught as a subject in each of our classrooms. Knowledge of the Bible as the story of God and his people is important and through their years at GDCS, the students are led to see the Bible as one true story, made up of many smaller stories, each of which is an integral part of the whole story. The individual stories are not isolated from each other, and every story leads to the next one. This story is also presented as our story - our lives are also part of God’s story. The lessons learned in Bible class have a direct application to our lives and should call each of us - teacher and student, into a deeper relationship with the author of the story. Our Bible program covers the central themes presented in Scripture. God’s faithfulness and love, His care, grace and mercy extended towards sinful people, and His continued call to come to salvation through Christ, provide the framework for our Bible classes. Students are challenged to see our sinfulness and God’s forgiveness so that they can come to know and accept God’s gift of salvation and meaningfully apply the story to their own lives as young disciples. We aim to help them grow in wisdom and develop a Biblical consciousness so they are able to respond as Kingdom citizens in all areas of their lives Memory work is a regular part of our Bible program. We challenge the students to “learn by heart” so that God’s Word becomes part of them and His words become their words. Bible songs, hymns, and songs of praise and worship are also taught and used in classroom devotions, school chapels, assemblies and school presentations. Goals of our Bible program:
